  • Once the offer has been accepted, maintain contact regularly with the future new employee before the first day of employment.
  • Ensure the new employee receives all orientation paperwork well in advance of the first day of work.
  • Provide details regarding the schedule of activities for the first day, the time and place to report.
  • Provide a friendly, welcoming environment for the orientation and be well prepared.
  • In addition to completing paperwork, explain the vision, mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Introduce the new employee to other employees and provide a tour of the facility.
  • Arrange for lunch on the first day with the new employeeโ€™s manager or co-workers.
  • Follow up regarding unfinished paperwork and to ensure the transition is going smoothly.
  • REMEMBER โ€” New hire processing may occur on the first day, but true assimilation is a long-term process.

Identify the components and responsible parties for each part of your assimilation process.

  • Follow the established timetable for all actions such as coach/mentor meetings, goal setting, and performance feedback.
  • Be proactive and keep in close contact with your new employees.
  • Establish and execute retention programs and provide employee recognitions.
